陈必先  钢琴家

 

《波士顿环球报》（Boston Globe）对于陈必先，尤其是她演奏的巴赫作品，曾赞誉她为“陈必先伟大地创造了巴赫”。欧洲媒体曾称她为“中国的奇迹”。纽约时报说：“她的音乐观点如水晶般的闪闪发光。”

陈必先1950年生于台北。四岁起随崔月梅女士学琴，五岁登台。她九岁时成为中国台湾第一位赴德国科隆深造的音乐天才儿童。在留学期间追随汉斯-奥拓·施密特-纽豪斯（Hans-Otto Schmidt-Neuhaus）等名师学习，他也是卡尔海因茨·施托克豪森（Karlheinz Stockhausen）、克里斯托弗·艾申巴赫（Christoph Eschenbach）和皮特·乌特夫斯（Péter E?tv?s）的老师。之后她还陆续接受汉斯·雷格拉夫（Hans Leygraf）、威廉·肯普夫 （Wilhelm Kempff）、克劳迪奥·阿劳 （Claudio Arrau）、盖扎·安达（Geza Anda），以及塔基亚娜·尼古拉耶娃（Tatjana Nikolajewa）的指导。

1972年，陈必先获得第二十一届慕尼黑ARD国际比赛第一名，同年，她还在布鲁塞尔的伊丽莎白皇后大赛中得奖。她对勋伯格和巴赫作品有浓厚的兴趣，又陆续获得鹿特丹的“国际勋伯格大赛”和美国华盛顿的“国际巴赫大赛”等国际大赛的首奖，从此一举成名。

陈必先在众多世界知名城市如伦敦、柏林、慕尼黑、苏黎世、阿姆斯特丹、东京、波士顿、圣地亚哥、北京、上海、广州，以及南美洲等地演出，都得到了极高的评价。她与几乎所有的德国广播系统的交响乐团合作过，除此之外，她合作过的乐团还有：皇家爱乐乐团、伦敦交响乐团、BBC交响乐团、阿姆斯特丹皇家音乐厅管弦乐团、苏黎世市政厅交响乐团、日本NHK交响乐团、苏格兰室内乐团、苏黎世室内乐团，以及阿姆斯特丹Asko重奏团、法兰克福·现代重奏团、巴黎当代乐集合奏团等。合作过的指挥家有：伯纳德·海汀克（Bernhard Haitink）、保罗·沙赫尔（Paul Sacher）、科林·戴维斯爵士（Sir Colin Davis）、夏尔·迪图瓦（Charles Dutoit）、马雷克·雅诺斯基（Marek Janowsky）、汉斯·赞德尔（Hans Zender）、皮特·乌特夫斯（Peter Eotvos）、亨利·梅哲（Henry Mazer）等。她也与小提琴家杜梅（Augustin Dumay）、钢琴家皮埃尔-洛朗·艾玛（Pierre-Laurant Aimard）有过合作。

其受邀参加过的重要音乐节如：施韦芩根（Schwetzinger Festpiele）、柏林、科隆、香港、大阪音乐节，鲁尔钢琴节、伦敦逍遥音乐节、伦敦南岸音乐节、哈德斯费尔德音乐节（Huddersfield Festival）、巴黎之秋音乐节（Festival d’Automne Paris）、斯特拉斯堡音乐季、法国最大的拉罗克当泰龙国际钢琴艺术节（Roque d'Anthéron）、维也纳现代音乐季，等。在2000汉诺威世博会上，她代表德国音乐家与阿尔方斯·康塔尔斯基（Alfons Kontarsky）合作双钢琴演出，受到国际乐坛的推崇和肯定。

除了活跃于舞台，近年更积极投入室内乐演出及研究并推广现代音乐。陈必先也与许多现代音乐作曲家共同合作，著名作曲家有：约翰·凯奇、艾略特·卡特、布列兹、施托克豪森、库尔·塔格、约翰·帕特里克·托马斯（John Patrick Thomas）、皮特·乌特夫斯等，同时她也在德国许多不同音乐节演奏。其认为以现代的技巧及现代的精神来诠释古典音乐才能赋予新的生命与现代的观众产生共鸣。同时也强调，音乐家与听众，是一体两面，她曾说：“弹一个因听众能懂，演奏者也能感觉到她们懂的，然后就会更感动地弹下去。这层默契，是推动演奏者的最大力量。”

陈必先出现两个重要的现代音乐电影中。在法国蓬皮杜声学与音乐研究协调学会（IRCAM）的电影（瓦尔特·歇尔斯导演）中，布列兹《十二首记谱法》世界首演前，他协助陈必先进行准备。在有关卡特的纪录片《黑与白》中，陈必先是的，《大键琴钢琴与两个室内乐团的双协奏曲》中的钢琴家。陈必先频繁受邀与多瑙兴根音乐节（Donaueschingen Festival），于2010年首演哈斯（Georg Friedrich Haas）《有限的近似》（Limited Approximation），对当代音乐极具开创性的贡献。ARTE于2014年在奇美博物馆的协助下制作纪录片《稻田里的音符》也提到陈必先在台湾音乐生活中所扮演的先锋角色。

陈必先1983年起担任科隆音乐大学的钢琴教授，创下该校最年轻的教授记录。直至2004年起转任德国弗莱堡音乐学院教授，亦于2003年起担任国立交通大学音乐研究所客座教授，指导钢琴、室内乐与现代乐合奏等课程。

 

Pi-hsien Chen  pianist

 

New York Times claimed her “She takes a sparkling, crystalline view of the music.” Pi-hsien Chen was born in Taipei in 1950. She grew up in the home of her teacher, Hans-Otto Schmidt-Neuhaus, who was also the teacher of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Christoph Eschenbach, and Péter E?tv?s. She later studied with Hans Leygraf and also with Wilhelm Kempff, Claudio Arrau, Geza Anda, and Tatjana Nikolajewa.

In 1972, her carrier as pianist began when she won the First Prize at the International ARD Competition in Munich. Her special interest in Schoenberg and Bach also enabled her to win the Arnold Schoenberg Competition in Rotterdam and the Bach Competition in Washington, D.C.

She has performed in most of the major concert halls and with many of the world’s major orchestras, particularly almost every orchestra within the German radio system. Among the orchestras with whom she has appeared are the Royal Philharmonic, the London Symphony, the BBC Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, Tonhalle Orchestra, the NHK Orchestra in Tokyo, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Asko Ensemble in Amsterdam, Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, and Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris. She performed with great conductors such as Bernhard Haitink, Paul Sacher, Sir Colin Davis, Charles Dutoit, Marek Janowsky, Hans Zender, Peter Eotvos, Henry Mazer, among many others. She also collaborated with Augustin Dumay, Pierre-Laurant Aimard.

She has appeared in the festivals in Schwetzingen, Hong Kong, and Osaka, as well as the Berliner Festspiele, the Wien Modern festival, the Festival d’Autumne in Paris, the Strasbourg Festival, the South Bank Festival in London, the Huddersfield Festival, the BBC Proms, the Ruhr Piano Festival, and the festival in Roque d'Antéron. She represented German music at EXPO 2000 in Hanover, appearing with Alfons Kontarsky.

Her dedication to new piano music evolved out of her collaboration with composers such as John Cage, Elliott Carter, Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Gy?rgy Kurtág, John Patrick Thomas, and Péter E?tv?s, to whom she was married. An IRCAM documentary film by Walter Schels shows Boulez assisting Pi-hsien Chen as she prepares for the world premiere of his Douze Notations. In "Black and White", a documentary film about Elliott Carter, Pi-hsien Chen is the pianist in his Double Concerto for Harpsichord & Piano and Two Chamber Orchestras. She has been a frequent guest at the Donaueschingen Festival, and was one of six piano soloists in the world premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas's limited approximations in 2010 . The documentary film "Himmel voller Geigen" (shown on the German/French arts channel ARTE in 2014) examines Pi-hsien Chen’s role as a pioneer in Taiwan's musical life.

She was a professor specializing in contemporary piano music at the Universities of Music in Cologne and Freiburg. She also holds the position of guest professor at the Institute of Music of National Chiao Tung University since 2003.
